Jeff Allen

Jeff AllenJeff has been involved on the Ocean on and off for the past 25 years, ever since moving to Cornwall and holds a great deal of respect for this environment. Its many moods and ever-changing atmosphere never cease to amaze him.

Falmouth has a long and distinguished maritime history and this is where Jeff calls his home; he knows the coastline of Cornwall intimately.

Jeff founded Sea Kayaking Cornwall in 2003 and started to teach and guide around the South West Peninsular, he does not however limit his kayaking activities to just Cornwall; Jeff has instructed and led groups in many other areas around the world.

In 2004 Jeff travelled to Japan and with Hadas Feldman made a full circumnavigation of the four main islands of Honshu, Kyushu, Hokkaido and Shikoku, a distance in excess of 6500 kilometers.

In 2005 he was a part of the first British team to circumnavigate the remote Antarctic Island of South Georgia, long considered by sea kayakers around the world as being the ultimate challenge in ocean paddling. Also on that expedition were Peter Bray, Nigel Dennis and once more Hadas Feldman.

In March 2008 Jeff set off to start a long term exploration/circumnavigation of Scandinavia by sea kayak and ski, leaving Goteborg in Sweden he paddled north and to date has managed to reach as far north as the small town of Sjervoy, just short of europes most northerley cape, Nordkap.

The expedition, apart from being one hell of an adventure is also aiming to raise money and awareness for the Ovarian Cancer Action.

The last leg of the expedition had to be aborted early due to one of the expedition members being taken seriously ill, it is hoped that this expedition shall be continued sometime in 2011.

In spring 2011, Jeff and Harry Whelan broke the ‘Around Ireland’ record which was established in 1990 and stood at 33 days. Jeff and Harry knocked 8 days of the time, completing the route in 25 days with their efforts captured in the newly released ‘Into The Wind’ DVD.

When not paddling Jeff writes for the kayaking press and regularly contributes to ‘Ocean Paddler’ magazine, he enjoys delivering inspirational/motivational presentations about his expeditions and other sea kayaking related topics.

For the last few years Jeff has been developing a series of Incident Management and rescue clinics, specifically designed for expedition paddlers.

All of Jeff’s expeditions are presently dedicated to the Ovarian Cancer Action charity.
